This August I’m trying to mix it up a little bit. While you haven’t seen the reviews yet, I’ve been reading A LOT of Historical Fiction over the last several months. While I love it, I’m feeling a bit burned out on it.
I am reading James Rollins THE EYE OF GOD because someone (think it may have been Swapna at S. Krishna’s Books) told me some time ago that I should try his books. It’s taken me awhile, but I’m finally getting to it.
DRIFT by Jon McGoran came to me in the form of a tour presented by TLC Book Tours. It looked a bit different to me and different is what I was looking for so I hopped on the tour.
The August selection for the She Reads book club is THE PERFUME COLLECTOR by Kathleen Tessaro. I adore the cover and am really looking forward to reading it.
Another new to me author is Diane Mott Davidson. I discovered during Colorado Book Month that she is a Colorado author. When I saw that she had a new book releasing I knew I had to read it. THE WHOLE ENCHILADA is part of the Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery Series. (book 17, yikes!) I don’t usually like jumping in so far into a series, but I have a feeling that its going to be fine. Have you ever jumped into a series this far? At what point do you feel like you should read all of the earlier books before jumping in?
I have been trying to get to THE ENGAGEMENTS by J. Courtney Sullivan for a while now. I have it in print and in audio so this one may end up being a listen/read combo…
Finally, the last book in this months plan is THE HUSBAND’S SECRET by Liane Moriarity. This author has been on my TBR radar for a while, but I haven’t gotten a chance to read her yet. I’ve been hearing some great things about this book and am really looking forward to jumping into it.
How do you handle genre burnout? Do you take a break for one or two books and then go back or a much longer hiatus? What books are you looking forward to reading this month?
