Synopsis from Goodreads: As a new witch—not to mention owner of Savannah’s most enchanting bakery—Katie Lightfoot is still getting used to casting spells, brewing potions, and mastering her magical powers. But that doesn’t mean she can’t find time to enjoy a picnic with firefighter Declan McCarthy…until she stumbles upon a corpse.

The dead man’s tattoo reveals he was a member of a secret society—and it turns out he’s missing an object that was very important to the group. When Katie learns the killer was after more than the man’s life, she and her Aunt Lucy leave the baked goods on the rack to cool and set off in hot pursuit of a killer.

My thoughts: I have a certain fondness for cozy mysteries. They are especially comforting to me when I’m feeling a little crazed. Not to mention that many of them contain recipes for delicious food! In this case, you are tempted with descriptions of wonderful baked goodies (recipes included).

Bailey Cates is a new to me author. I stumbled upon her website while doing some research on Colorado Based authors. She also writes the Home Crafting Mysteries under the name Cricket McRae.

I liked Katie right from the start. She’s recently moved to Savannah to start a new life and has strong ideas about what that entails. She is a strong independent woman who values friendship and is willing to help others.

It was fun to take a glimpse into her magical life. The story contained enough information about the magical aspects so that I had a basic understanding what was going on without heavy explanation. An approach that I much appreciated. The story had a great pace. There were a lot of characters that were introduced at just the right time.

Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti is the second installment in the Magical Bakery Mystery Series. The first, Brownies and Broomsticks was released in May 2012, and the third, Charms and Chocolate Chips is anticipated in November 2013.

  1. I liked this one too! I didn’t so much love the love triangle (in book 1 or 2) but I love the “book” club AND all the characters :)

I didn’t feel like the love triangle or the relationships were really an important part of the story other than the introduction of important characters so I didn’t pay much attention to them. Such a cool group of ladies! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a “book” club like that?

  2. This seems like a different sort of cozy. Fun! I like Diane Mott Davidson (I think that’s the name), who is also a Colorado author! However, I’ve yet to find another cozy series I like (unless Beth Groundwater is counted as Mystery). I’ll have to check this one out!

Looking forward to reading this one.
