2012 Audio Book Challenge

2012 Audio Book Challenge Hosted by Teresa’s Reading Corner

Weclcome to the Orignial Audio Book Challenge formerly hosted by Alaine at Queen of Happy Endings. This challenge is for Audio Book lovers as well as those who are brand new to them.

I’ve been listening to your feedback and I’m convinced that the 2012 challenge is going to be better than ever. There will still be targets for achievement, but I’m raising them a bit since many of our participants are avid audio book listeners.

Once again, there are four levels to the challenge

  • Flirting-Listen to 6 Audio Books
  • Going Steady- Listen to 12 Audio Books
  • Lover- Listen to 25 Audio Books
  • Married-Listen to +++  Audio Books
*A big Thank You to fellow blogger and twitter buddy @dogearedcopy for her suggestions on the level names.

There will be a monthly link up so that we can share what we’ve listened to and make suggestions to each other. Along with that monthly link up there will be a special monthly challenge so make sure you stop by each month!

Inspired by Beth Fish Reads and There’s A Book I’m going to be adding a feature (still unnamed) in which we get to know Audio Book Publishers. I’ll be asking them about what they’ve got coming up as well as about their back list titles and of course, the chance to win an Audio Book or two!

I’ll also be adding a feature in which we can get to know our fellow participants. If you are interested in appearing in this feature, please fill out the attached google form.

I hope I’ve enticed you to join in the 2012 Audio Book Challenge. I’m really looking forward to reading your reviews and experiences over the next year.

Official Challenge dates: 1/1/2012-12/31/2012

  1. I’m in for 2012! oops, I did not see it came out automatically as my last post!!
    Emma

  2. And I forgot: I’ll go for the “Going Steady” level, as this year I’m going to be around 20 audiobooks for 2011.
    Thanks for hosting

    • Teresa says:

Welcome Emma! So glad you are back. You’ve done a great job this year. I’m looking forward to reading more about your experiences with audio books.

  3. Shana says:

    Count me in.

This challenge appeals to me since I listen to audiobooks while working out — it’s what keeps me going — but I don’t know much about publishers and readers. I borrow most of my books from the library and load them on my iPod. I hope this challenge will point me in the direction of some great audio titles.

I’ll commit to the “Going Steady” level.

    • Teresa says:

Hi Shana! Welcome aboard, I’m so happy to have you. One of my goals with the new feature is to introduce listeners to the many ways we can obtain our favorite audio books.

      • Shana says:

Perfect. Do you always link to new posts in your Twitter feed? That is my favorite way to keep up with the blogs I like. I’m horrible at using my Google Reader.

        • Teresa says:

They auto post to twitter at least once and I try to shoot them out a couple more times during the day. Thanks for asking!

    • Kate says:

I never listened to audio books until a month ago when I decided to trial listening to one whilst I was in the gym. It works like magic and so I intend to try listening to more. Hopefully an audio book challenge will help motivate me when I’m in the gym and vice versa.

      Kate

      • Teresa says:

Welcome aboard Kate! Audio Books at the gym is a fantastic idea. I could see myself getting into the zone on the elliptical while getting lost in the story.

        • Kate says:

It does the odd thing of making me relax and forget about the silly gym at all. Yet you still get the satisfaction of having gone. Plus, it somehow makes it easier.

  4. Darlene says:

Woo hoo! So glad to see the new challenge is up!

Thanks so much for hosting again, Teresa! Looking forward to it!

  5. Yeah! Thanks for hosting the audiobook challenge, Teresa. I’m really looking forward to hearing more from publishers and other listeners. I’m married to audiobooks!

  6. Yay, thanks for this challenge. Audio books make my daily commute bearable.

  7. Squeak says:

I think I will go for the Married challenge! I love audiobooks!

  8. Sam M-B says:

Audiobooks and I were well above the 25 level this year, but I think maybe I’ll dial things back and aim for 25 this year and try to fit in some more reading.

  9. dogearedcopy says:

OK, I’m definitely in! I know I’ll end up married; but I always start out at the lowest levels of challenges and work my way up! So, I’ll start by “flirting!” :-)

  10. I don’t do challenges BUT I will be listening to lots of audios this year and can’t wait for your reviews!

  11. Kelli says:

I’m brushing aside any fear of commitment and getting married. I’ll try not to get carried away with rallying cries like “death before divorce.”

Seriously though, thanks for hosting this challenge, Teresa. I look forward to being involved and getting additional listening suggestions from the participants.

  12. I’m excited for this! I’m at Going Steady level currently but I’ll shoot for higher in 2012!

  13. This is a challenge I think I can actually complete this year! :)

  14. I signed up for Going Steady. It seems manageable!

  15. Book Purring says:

    Just joined! Love audiobooks :)

  16. Red Headed Book Child says:

I’m doing it! I will start out slow and do the first level. I just got done listening to my very first full length unabridged audio and LOVED it.

I’m looking forward to learning more!

    Thanks,
    michelle

  17. I’ve slowly grown to enjoy audio books over the past year, so I’m signing up for the first time for this challenge! I’ll be Going Steady. Thanks for hosting!

  18. Gladly joining again. Love reading in the car.

  19. Gladly joining again. Love reading in the car.

    Thank you for hosting.

  20. Im going to try the Flirting level, since I have never really listened to an audio book. Im still nervous about not being able to actually read the book, and Im not sure if my MP3 player will support it.
Fingers crossed that my dad gets me an IPod!

  21. Kristin C says:

All signed up! I’m learning WordPress this year so hopefully I figured it all out!

  22. beedrill says:

Hey, I love the idea. I’m going to try using this to get out and walk more next year as well. I started listening to audiobooks this year while I walked, and I definitely need to do more.

  23. Susan @ Avid Series Reader says:

I enjoyed this challenge in 2010 (signed up as Susan @ Having Fun), and look forward to listening to my audiobooklist in 2012. I’ll start off with Vanish by Tess Gerritsen, a GoodReads Tess Gerritsen Fans group read for January.

  24. I have only dabbled in audio books but since I am starting a new job which will require a 2 hour commute 3 days a week I am hoping to get more in this year.

  25. Hi! Great challenge – I hope to listen to 6+, but as I’m fairly new to audiobooks will be flirting with them throughout 2012. Thanks for hosting!

  26. OK, I am now officially in. This one is going to be very fun. Thanks for hosting!

  27. Aylee says:

Thanks for hosting this challenge! I’m excited to introduce more audiobooks into my reading. Though I have a hard time reviewing books that I’ve listened to for some reason.

    • Teresa says:

Thank you for joining! Reviewing audio books can sometimes be a daunting task. Personally, I structure mine very similar to a print review but comment on the narration a bit. I’m always trying new things to see what works and what doesn’t. Good Luck!

  28. Heather says:

This is great! Thanks for hosting. I’ll be “going steady.” ;)

  29. I’m shooting for the Going Steady level.

  30. I tried to sign up for the challenge and the linky keeps giving me an error. I have no idea how to fix this but I really want to participate and give audio books a try. I even have a post done too. :)

    Here’s my link…

  31. Melanie says:

Sounds fun – I’m married to audiobooks and have long-term extramarital relationships with non-audiobooks. I look forward to pushing some envelopes!

  32. Poof Books says:

Ohhh love the audiobooks but sooo nervous about the challenge thing. But it is a new year and I am in. Thanks for hosting.

  35. Heidi says:

I am new to your challenge. I am going to try the Going Steady level.

  39. Bec Clarke says:

Wow, I am so happy to find this, I am looking forward to the discussion on places to find Audiobooks.

  40. Allison R says:

I don’t have a blog, can I still participate? I do have a goodreads account.

    • Teresa says:

Absolutely! Could you leave a link to your goodreads reviews or tell us your thoughts in the comments section of the monthly link up?

  41. It sounds like a lot of fun again this year! I plan on listening to twelve audiobooks again this year.

  42. Lindy says:

I love audio books in the car

  43. I think I will go for married! I’ve renewed my Audible subscription for 24 credits this year… so I should be able to handle 25 audiobooks! Since I’m a teacher I don’t get as much time as I would like to actually read, but I can listen to audiobooks while driving, cleaning and prepping things for school! Good luck everyone, I can’t wait to see you recommendations!

  44. Sara Kovach says:

Entered on other post, but got here!!!!

  45. DJ says:

I’ve already finished one, and am halfway into the next. I “read” over 80 audiobooks last year. I’m so excited about this challenge!

  46. Shaluna says:

I’ve always loved audiobooks, but still I’m only trying the 6 books level.

  47. Marcie says:

Thanks for hosting this challenge. I love audio books but I’m going to go for Flirting but I hope to get to Going Steady.

  48. SenoraG says:

I am joining in yet again. I have been listening more than reading lately. I like to listen while I crochet! Thanks for hosting and good luck to all.

Love the challenge! Thanks so much for hosting, I can’t wait to get started.

  50. Lynne says:

I was so happy to run across this challenge since I am 100% addicted to audio books. I’m going for married.

@BrooklynnGibbs, Your local library may be your best quick source of information on how to download audio books to you mp3 and other cool gadgets. Even your Ipod.

  52. Kirsty says:

Thanks for hosting! I’ve never done the audiobook challenge before as I only started my blog in February last year, but I really got into audiobooks towards the end of last year and I’m looking forward to listening to more this year. I’m going to be aiming for the Going Steady level!

  53. Emily says:

I just signed up…what a great challenge! So happy I found this! :)

  54. I’m looking forward to this challenge. I’m listening to Great Expectations by Dickens right now and the narrator is amazing. I recommend anything read by Martin Jarvis

    • Teresa says:

OOh, a new to me narrator. I’ll have to check Martin Jarvis out. Thanks for stopping by and welcome to the challenge!

  55. I have decided to join, and I’m so excited. I really learned to love audio books last year, and I will be finishing one this evening (it’s short), that I will write up and post for tomorrow. Thanks for hosting, Teresa. I look forward to pushing myself this year and also reading the features of audio book publishers!

  56. Les in NE says:

This is just the challenge for me! I’ve become quite addicted to audio books and find all kinds of reasons to plug in and listen to my current “read.” I recently finished The Night Circus (narrated by Jim Dale) and I’m having a hard time saying goodbye to that special book. Next up, The Marriage Plot, narrated by David Pittu.

    Thanks for hosting this challenge!

    • Teresa says:

So glad to have you Les! I’ve not listened to or read The Night Circus yet. I understand its one of those that you either love it or hate it. I look forward to your review.

  57. Looking forward to this challenge. I love audiobooks and use them to listen when I do housework or cook dinner, sure makes the time fly by.

  58. Squeak says:

    Hi

I noticed that somehow my link points to an old review and not to either my main blog or to the Audiobook Challenge Post. Could you fix this please.

Here is the link to my challenge page:

    Squeak

  59. Is there a place to leave links to reviews? I can’t find it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. :)

Here is my review of High Stakes by Dick Francis. It’s not the first audiobook I read in 2012, but it is the first I reviewed.

    • Teresa says:

There is a link to the January link up under the reading challenge logo in my sidebar. I will update it each month to include that months link up.

  60. Nancy says:

I’m flirting at best but hope to be going steady before too long. Thanks for a fun challenge, Teresa’s Reading Corner!

    Thanks,
    Mason
    Thoughts in Progress

  64. SO lad I stumbled across this challenge. My Audible will be very happy!

  65. Ooo…this is probably a silly question BUT… is it 1-6 = flirting, 7-12 = going steady etc? Or is it 6 -11 = flirting, 12-24 = going steady and so on?

  66. cobehale says:

I would love to join this challenge! I am an avid audiobook listener. I am pretty sure I can reach “married”! :)

  67. Krista says:

This is my first audio book challenge! So I’m in for flirting!
