Where in the World are you reading is a new monthly meme introduced by Trish at Love, Laughter, and a Touch of Insanity, Kailana at The Written World and Lisa at Books Lists Life. The first place everyone is sharing is their favorite local bookstore.
One of the places I love to visit is Old Firehouse Books. It is a truly wonderful store that sells both new and used books. Their customer service has been nothing but fantastic. Not only will they order a book for you if they don’t have it in stock, they will take your name and let you know when they get a used copy if that is your preference.
They are located in our Historic Downtown area in, you guessed it, the old firehouse. It is such a neat building and the atmosphere in the store is fantastic.
Old Firehouse books is a proud supporter of local authors. Attending one of their author lunches is how I learned about the Kelly Flynn Mysteries, written by Maggie Sefton that are not only written by a local author but are set here as well. They frequently host author events. I was incredibly bummed that I wasn’t able to attend when Eleanor Brown, author of The Weird Sisters was in town.
They have recently begun hosting a number of Book Clubs, but I have yet to be able to give one a try. I’m hoping to do so soon.
So there you have it, my local bookstore. Have you shared yours?

What a pretty bookstore! I love the name, too.
The only bookstore I know of that carry books that aren’t used is Indigo — I should do some digging to see if there’s anything else in my area!
SO COOL!!! I wonder if there’s a fire pole in the middle of the bookstore? And I love that they sell used and new books–best of both worlds. I wonder why more bookstores don’t do this. Thanks for sharing with us Teresa!
You know, a firepole would be cool. I don’t think there is one unless its hidden in a room I haven’t been in.
What a wonderful place! We’ve got a store like that here that’s in an old building and sells new and used books. The problem with it? The people that work there all smoke in the store. I’d love to spend more time and money there but it’s really overpowering. Just think that’s so odd in a bookstore!
That is odd. Why on earth would anyone think its a good idea to smoke in a bookstore. I wonder if they realize how it affects their sales? I would never buy a book that smelled of smoke.
Awesome!
Confession: Can we see the inside? I too was wondering about the pole.
What a great use of old real estate. It would offer up a great atmosphere. It sounds like a wonderful bookstore to visit.
I love repurposed spaces and I bet this would be so cool inside. I love bookstores that sell both old and new.
Thanks for reminding me that I still need to do this post!
Sounds so charming. You should try one of the book clubs! I bet you’d have fun.
Love that an old firehouse was renovated into a bookstore!
