Synopsis from Goodreads: When Tallulah gets jilted at the altar, she gets very drunk and starts making passes at the male wedding guests. She even propositions the caterer. But in the next few weeks, reality comes crashing down around her. Her difficult mother becomes more impossible than ever. Her lesbian sister starts trying to have a baby. Nana Ida gets busy matchmaking. What Tallulah is about to discover is that happiness doesn’t always come in the form of the perfect doctor- and that sometimes real love doesn’t require a catered affair.
My thoughts: If anyone knows how to do chick lit, its Sue Margolis. I discovered her a couple of years ago when I read Forget Me Knot. We go into the novel knowing that Tallulah is going to be left at the altar so it was surprising that the first 100 pages or so was about her life, courtship, and wedding planning with Josh. Of course some of this was the foundation for getting to know the rest of her wacky family.
I think one of the reasons that I really enjoyed A Catered Affair is because it reminded me quite a bit of my own courtship with my husband. I wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time. He was someone who had “been there, done that” and could relate to my situation. Much like Tallulah, I kept insisting that “he’s not my type”. Everyone else kept insisting I was wrong. Hmmm… guess they were right, I WAS wrong.
Anyone looking for a fun read from across the pond cannot go wrong picking up anything from Sue Margolis. While I’ve only read two of her works, I’ll be adding more to my library. They are great reads for a quick diversion from the chaos that we call life.

I’ve never read Margolis’s work, but feel like I should after your review!
Thanks!
I love Brit Chick Lit so this sounds like an author I need to check out!
Do it and make sure you let me know what you think.
I’m always surprised at chick lit. I think I’m not going to like it so much but then I do. Never read her but she sounds like fun!
Take care,
Michelle
Definitely one to try!
I saw this one in Barnes and Noble recently and thought it sounded fun. I tend to prefer the British Chick lit as it is usually a little more snarky, which I like, lol.
I love the snark! I actually didn’t realize that was what I like about it until you mentioned it. So true!
I love British chick lit and am making note of this title!
