Synopsis from Publisher: For all of recorded history, humans have sought to understand Earth’s mysteries in the realm of the divine — and aspired to conduct themselves as heroes. Only gods, of course, could push the sun across the sky, forge entire continents, and impel mountains to touch the clouds. In this stunning volume, the incomparable team of Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda take us to Ra-Atum’s land in Ancient Egypt; above the Grecian clouds to Zeus’s Mount Olympus; up to Norse god Odin’s frozen north; to the Far East, where the Jade Emperor sits in the heavens; into the wilds of Oceania, where Pele’s volcanic rage simmers below the earth; and to many more lands and times, all rich with sacred myths and legends.
The creators of the New York Times best-selling Encyclopedia Prehistorica series offer a mythic look at the mysteries of the past with an entire pantheon of remarkable pop-ups.
My thoughts: Wow! What a fantastic book. The pop ups are truly amazing. My little monkey is pretty advanced for his age, but this book was a bit above him. Its target age range is 5+. He really loves all of the pop ups and has played with them continuously since we received the book. When we are reading it I’ve been doing a bit of summarizing so that he gets the story without getting bored.
This fantastic book has been nominated in the 3rd-4th Grade Category of the Children’s Choice Book Awards. I would love it if you would stop by and vote for it.
My copy of Gods & Heroes was provided to me by the fine folks at Candlewick Press. This did not influence my review of the book.

Great review…..and what a wonderful book. Though I’m not certain I’ve seen this one, I’ve seen others along the same lines in the store and yeah, they are amazing. Informative, and entertaining all at once. The pop ups are so intricate too….a work of art all around. Thanks for sharing…and happy reading.
