The Tudor Secret by C.W. Gortner- a mini review

Synopsis from Goodreads: Summer 1553: A time of danger and deceit. Brendan Prescott, an orphan, is reared in the household of the powerful Dudley family. Brought to court, he finds himself sent on an illicit mission to the King’s brilliant but enigmatic sister, Princess Elizabeth. But Brendan is soon compelled to work as a double agent by Elizabeth’s protector, William Cecil–who promises in exchange to help him unravel the secret of his own mysterious past. A dark plot swirls around Elizabeth’s quest to unravel the truth about the ominous disappearance of her seriously ill brother, King Edward VI. With Elizabeth’s lady-in-waiting at his side, Brendan plunges into a ruthless gambit of half-truths, lies, and murder. Filled with the intrigue and pageantry of Tudor England, THE TUDOR SECRET is the first book in the Elizabeth I Spymaster series.

My thoughts: I was first introduced to CW Gortner last Spring with the release of The Confessions of Catherine de Medici. I immediately fell in love with his writing style so when I heard he was going on tour again with his newest release, The Tudor Secret, I knew I had to be part of it.

I’m giving you a mini review today as I’m not quite finished with the story.  This story has plenty of intrigue.  I haven’t figured out who is to be trusted and who is not.  Everyone seems to be operating under their own agenda, yet they are able to come together for the overall mission (whichever side they are on).

At this point I’m just getting into the meat of the story and to be honest, I had to force myself to put it down in order to write this.  I know I’m not going to get it finished in time to write the full review, but wanted to make sure I had something up for my stop on the tour.  I’m loving this book and I would encourage anyone who is a fan of Historical Fiction to immediately get their hands on this one.  Don’t wait around for the full review…

I was provided a copy of The Tudor Secret for participation in this blog tour being presented by Pump Up Your Book.  Receipt of my copy has not affected my opinion of the book.  It is based entirely on the authors skill!
